5 Things That Helped Me Survive the Heat on My Summer Vacation
From frizz control to sun-safe setting sprays, here’s what actually kept me cool, hydrated and put-together in the heat.

After spending my summer vacation in the heat, I have to share the five essentials I actually used every day and couldn’t survive the hot temperatures without. These were the items that kept me cool, fresh and still feeling like myself, even on the hottest days.
A small electric fan
Don’t underestimate how life-changing a portable electric fan can be. I brought a mini one everywhere whether I was waiting for a car or sitting at lunch. It fits in your tote, recharges via USB and makes a huge difference, I usually charge it overnight so it’s always ready during the day.
Electrolytes, always
I added electrolytes to my water every day to stay hydrated. Whether it was a full beach day or just walking around in the heat, these kept me from feeling drained. I would even take these to restaurants and just order water and ice and mix them and it felt like having a mocktail. This is my favorite brand because they are sugar free and it tastes like a lemonade.
Minimal, summer-proof makeup
I kept it light and glowy with a few of my Summer Fridays favorites:
Summer Fridays ShadeDrops Mineral Milk SPF for daily sun protection
Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint for light coverage and hydration
Our new Butter Blush Balm (coming July 8th!) for that creamy flush that melts into skin
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Hydrating Mist there is a mini size in the Jet Lag Essentials set, but the normal size is also compact enough and TSA friendly
One/Size SPF Setting Spray with SPF 28 to lock it all in (bonus: extra sun protection, I like this on top of my daily SPF)
Hair Must Haves
Hair up and off the neck was the only way. I love the Emi Jay claws they actually hold all my hair, don’t break and look cute with everything from swimwear to linen sets. Plus using the Color Wow Dream Coat (Travel Size), this spray is a must in humidity. It protects my hair from frizz and helps it stay sleek even when I air-dry. I packed the travel size and used it every few days it really does create that glassy, frizz-free finish without making hair feel heavy. If I didn’t use this spray, my hair would be really frizzy and poofy even if I used heat tools on it.
Midday refresh essentials
When the heat really hits, having something to freshen up with makes all the difference. I packed a few travel-friendly options that saved me on long, sweaty days. Wet wipes and body powder (I love the one from Megababe) helped me feel instantly cleaner and more comfortable after walking around or spending time in the sun. They're easy to keep in your bag and perfect for a quick reset before dinner or heading somewhere new.
Stay cool and stay safe wherever you are this Summer! Taking any trips or vacations? Let me know where you’re off to!
